A Pokémon GO fan has set himself a particularly insane challenge: leveling up his character without catching a single Pokémon in the wild. He’s now at level 30.
What do players do when they have already invested many hours in a certain game and then die of boredom? You are looking for new challenges. what in World of Warcraft in the form of the Iron Man Challenge or in the form of the flower picker Double Agent, is now making a similar impression in Pokémon GO: leveling your own character under difficult conditions.
Hatch eggs and rotate Pokéstops
A trainer took on such a challenge in Niantic’s mobile game and leveled his character without catching a single Pokémon in the wild:
Within six months (since October 2021), reddit user notAKawaiiCatGirl reached level 30 this way after catching only his starter Pokémon. His self-imposed rules for the challenge were:
- Catching Pokemon is not allowed.
- He can hatch eggs.
- He can only add friends to his friends list that he knows in real life.
- He may not trade Pokémon.
The player writes that he has only unlocked two best friends in the game so far and gained experience points primarily from spinning Pokéstop Photo Discs, hatching eggs, accepting and sending gifts, and evolving Pokémon.
Unfortunately, notAKawaiiCatGirl accidentally completed a weekly research that requires her to catch a Pokémon. Because he cannot complete this research without violating the rules of his challenge, he is barred from further weekly research tasks. However, he still wants to go ahead and level his character up to level 40, which is the hard cap for his leveling method. In any case, we think: This performance is impressive, or what do you think?
