IT House reported on May 24 that SpaceX’s Starlink Internet service can only be used in specific locations where users register. But for an extra $25 a month, users can take their antennas elsewhere, and SpaceX announced that it is now starting to offer Starlink internet access for Camper Vehicles (RVS).

Elon Musk recently tweeted: “Starlink is now available for RVs, campers, and other large vehicle users (note that the antenna is too big for the average car).”

Starlink for RVs will provide high-speed, low-latency internet in areas marked “available” on its map. SpaceX explained that in areas on the “waiting list,” users will experience significantly slower speeds during peak hours.

SpaceX also said that Starlink for RVs is not designed to be used in a car. The service is billed on a monthly basis, so customers can customize the Starlink for RVs service to suit their needs. Users need to pay the full price and fee of $599, as well as a monthly network service fee of $135, which is more expensive than the regular service fee, which requires only a $99 down payment and an estimated monthly network service fee of $110. And, the Starlink for RVs FAQ explains, “Compared to other Starlink services, Starlink for RVs users’ network resources are always de-prioritized, resulting in service drops and slower speeds in congested areas and peak hours. The stated Speed and uninterrupted use of service are not guaranteed. Service degradation will be most severe in the ‘waiting list’ area on the Starlink availability map during peak hours.”That said, Starlink for RVs is more expensive, but the internet speed may be slower.

The service covers most of the United States, with parts of the Midwest and South already on a waiting list for Starlink service.

In Canada, RV Starlink service is available in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador. SpaceX is also bringing the service to some parts of South America, including Rio de Janeiro in and around Brazil and parts of Chile.

SpaceX’s RV service is available in France, Germany, Spain and most of the UK in Europe. There are still some areas in Scotland on the waiting list. The service also fully covers Denmark, Romania, Italy and Lithuania. Ukraine is on a waiting list. Starlink’s services in Ukraine are well known. During the war, Starlink for RVs may prove more useful.

In Australia, Starlink for RVs is available in South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania. The whole of New Zealand is covered by the service, with the exception of a small part of Auckland still on the waiting list.

IT House has learned that most Asian countries are still on the waiting list for RV Starlink, including Japan, the Philippines and India.
