The security company Check Point Research writes that they have discovered vulnerabilities in the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) format that could be used by an attacker to gain access to media and audio conversations.

Apple introduced the format in 2004 and since 2011 it has been in open source.

Both the world’s largest manufacturers of mobile chips, Mediatek and Qualcomm, use the ALAC format, which means that millions of devices have been exposed to the vulnerabilities.

Following Check Point Research’s discovery, both Mediatek and Qualcomm have released security updates that cover the vulnerabilities.
