The social media giant announced today on its own platform that the “CC” button is in development. When watching a video on Twitter, the “CC” button gives users the option to enable or disable subtitles. This feature is currently being tested for some iOS users, with Android coming soon.

As shown below in the following video, the “CC” button is displayed on the top right corner of the video. This button only appears for videos with subtitles enabled.

This is not the company’s first attempt at subtitles. Back in December, Twitter introduced automatic video captions. This feature is currently available to all Twitter users, whether they use iOS, Android, or the web version. This feature is also available on other platforms. TikTok has been using automatic captioning for some time now. Just last month, Instagram also introduced automatic captions for its videos.

Enabling subtitles for videos is a noticeable improvement in accessibility. In addition, it is also good for users who watch videos with the sound turned off. Earlier this month, Twitter also improved its image descriptions to make the text easier to understand for screen readers. These are just a few of the many platform updates and tests that are more likely to arrive in recent times.
