Wi-Fi 6 is officially out of date!MediaTek’s world’s first Wi-Fi 7 router/mobile phone chip is here: Internet speed bid farewell to wired
I didn’t expect Wi-Fi 6 to become a backward technology so quickly…
On the morning of May 23, MediaTek announced the launch of the world’s first Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be) wireless chip. They are the Filic 880 for routing and the Filic 380 for mobile phones/tablets/notebooks, etc..
Specifically, the Filic 880 uses a 6nm process and integrates a quad-core A73 CPU unit. The network supports five-band 4×4 MIMO, with a single frequency of up to 10Gbps and a five-band concurrency of up to 36Gbps.
The Filic 380 also uses a 6nm process, and also integrates support for Bluetooth 5.3 and low-power audio. The network supports tri-band, 2×2 MIMO, and a maximum rate of 6.5Gbps.
As a replacement for Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7, the newly supported 4096-QAM modulation, 320MHz bandwidth, MRU/MLO and other technologies are also fully integrated.
MediaTek emphasized that Wi-Fi 7 will truly replace wired Ethernet connections for the first time in Wi-Fi history.
It is a little regrettable that MediaTek did not give the time when the router/mobile phone equipped with the related Wi-Fi 7 chip will be launched. Previous reports generally speculated that it will wait until next year at the earliest.
