One of Square Enix’s most promising projects is Forspoken, but the release was recently pushed back from spring to autumn. If you believe new rumours, the title may not be available in October either.
Forspoken was supposed to be released for PS5 and PC these days, but Luminous Productions’ promising project was summarily postponed in March. The current release date for the game is October 11, 2022, but it may not stay that way.
According to a new rumor, Square Enix could announce another postponement until then, so we may have to wait longer until Forspoken is released. At least that’s what the usually well-informed insider Spheshal_Nick says in a new issue of the Xbox Era Podcast.
Citing an unspecified source, the insider says Square Enix could be setting up another postponement for a very specific reason: Final Fantasy XVI. If the studio is far enough with the new JRPG epic and can release it with a clear conscience in autumn 2022, Forspoken would have to vacate the place in autumn in favor of the new Final Fantasy; the two titles should apparently not get in each other’s way.
The leaker’s source said: “If Square can release Final Fantasy 16 this year, if they really think they can, then obviously they’ll be postponing Forspoken again.”
Spheshal_Nick himself calls it a “strange” decision if it really comes to that, but co-host Zalker stresses that it doesn’t make much sense from Square Enix’s perspective to release two major titles in the same year in a similar time frame.
So far, all of this is really just a rumor, so it should be taken with caution. Finally, the full presentation of Final Fantasy XVI is still pending, although Square Enix recently emphasized that the new JRPG offspring is already well advanced.
