The Chinese subcontractor Beijing Oriental Electronics (BOE) is now at risk with Apple after it was discovered to change the design of screens for the iPhone 13 in order to reduce the proportion of faulty devices during production (yield rate), writes The Elec.

When Apple discovered how BOE took a little too many shortcuts, it ended its contract for Iphone 13 manufacturing. Apple intended to have the BOE manufacture 30 million OLED screens for the upcoming Iphone 14, but after the BOE sent a manager to Cupertino to explain the mistake, that person returned home without any order for the Iphone 14.

Apple is believed to instead distribute this multi-million order on Samsung and LG instead. However, the last word should not be said, there is still an opportunity for BOE to get an order from Apple.

BOE has also previously had problems meeting Apple’s often high demands. The company would have manufactured OLED screens for the iPhone 12 by 2020, but the first round of screen panels was not approved in Apple’s test routines.
