Every new product in the US that uses radio frequencies like bluetooth or wifi must be registered with the US government FCC, something that Apple just did with a new, mysterious device. Apple calls it a network adapter in its registration, and it contains many interesting parts, writes 9 to 5 Mac.
The device is equipped with two gigabit ethernet ports, wifi, bluetooth, nfc antennas, a usb-c port as well as 32 GB internal storage and 1.5 GB working memory. Another version is available of the same product, but then with a lightning port and only 1 GB of working memory.

Both devices run an internal version of iOS 15.5, similar to Apple Studio Display.
Now that Apple has manufactured a network product of an unknown kind, the thoughts go of course to Airport and a resurrected router from Apple, but even if that could be the case here, it is far from certain.
Products that are intended for internal use must also be registered with the authority, so this could be similar to referring to a product that is never intended to be sold.
