IT House May 22 news, Friday night, iFixit released a list of components that will be provided for Valve’s handheld devices. The listing shows that the company plans to sell spares for nearly every component in the Steam Deck, including replacement motherboards with AMD’s custom Aerith chipset onboard.
The Verge found that iFixit even sells “upgraded” product parts. For example, you can buy a 512GB version of the display to replace the parts on the 64GB or 256GB models to get the anti-glare screen that is only available on the top. It is reported that users can also buy a “repair kit” for $5, which contains all the tools needed to replace the screen.
It’s worth mentioning that iFixit doesn’t provide all the parts, such as no replacement batteries to buy, but it will provide these services at a later date.
“We don’t currently have a solution for battery repairs, but we’re working on working with Valve to maintain these devices as they age,” said iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens. Makes Steam Deck stand the test of time.”
IT Home understands that there are some other parts that didn’t arrive immediately, such as the Steam Deck’s trackpad and panel buttons, but fortunately, most spare parts are reasonably priced, such as the thumb rocker for only $20. By far the most expensive part iFixit offers is a new motherboard, which costs $350 a piece, while a brand new Steam Deck from Valve starts at $400.
