WhatsApp is finally planning to drop support for a few more iOS devices soon as the company will no longer work with iPhones running iOS 10 and iOS 11 starting later this year. Here’s what you need to know.
According to WABetaInfo, the company is now warning iPhone users with iOS 10 or iOS 11 to update their iPhones to continue using WhatsApp after October 24th.
Update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp
WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after October 24, 2022. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to get the latest version of iOS.
If you’re worried about which devices are currently running iOS 10 and iOS 11, here they are:
With that in mind, users who own these iPhones will not be able to use WhatsApp starting in October. For those with an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6s running iOS 12, there’s nothing to worry about for now as the company continues to support them.
In the WhatsApp help center, the company already states that iPhone users need to install iOS 12 or later to continue using the app. Android users, for example, need OS 4.1 or later.
Although WhatsApp will finally end support for these phones, WWDC 2022, at which Apple is due to announce iOS 16, is only a few weeks away. Rumor has it that this operating system will stop working with the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and the original iPhone SE.
Of course, it will remind users when WhatsApp stops supporting more devices, as well as remind you which iPhones will be able to run the latest version of the operating system.
