9. The Weeper

To begin, we invite you to discover the legend of the mourner. Also called the “llorona” in Spanish, it speaks of a ghost from the folklore of Hispanic America. Its legend dates back to the 16th century. The mourner presented herself as the pained soul of a woman who had lost or killed her children. She was walking in the night looking for them near Lake Texcoco, after stopping in the central square to pray. She made more than one tremble through her piercing cries of pain. The most curious who dared approach her disappeared under mysterious circumstances. There are different versions of this legend depending on the region, which all the same agree more or less.
