Released in November 2021 on Xbox Series X | S, PS5 and PC, Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One received a rather favorable reception from players. The new adventures of Sherlock Holmes, based in particular on the birth of the cult character, took the path of the open world and had some qualities to assert. If you were waiting for the game to be released on Xbox One to find out, you may unfortunately be disappointed.

The Xbox One version will not arrive in April
Frogwares had decided to postpone the release of the old-gen versions to early 2022 in order to be able to refine its copy. Unfortunately, we have just learned that the studio has decided to “pause indefinitely” the Xbox One version of the game. The press release is not very clear and sometimes speaks of outright cancellation, stopped development or even report.
The explanations of the studio are as follows:
From September of last year to February 2022, we worked hard to optimize our game on PC and on old and new generation consoles. During this period, we discovered that the scope of the work was greater than expected. So last year we made the decision to release the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions first, and work on optimizing the older gen versions. After Chapter One was validated on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in October, we continued to work on optimizing the PS4 and Xbox One versions. We tried to get the most out of older generation consoles. A lot of unseen but also visible work has been done, such as changes to the city map on the PS4 and Xbox One versions so that the game can run more smoothly (we cut some alleys, shortcuts, etc). And as we got closer and closer to finalizing those builds, the war came.
To say the war had an impact on us is probably the understatement of the decade. Not to mention our personal and mental situation, the war had a huge impact on us from a production point of view. Today, with the resources and manpower we have, we can release the PS4 version of Chapter One on April 28th. On the other hand, we have to postpone the Xbox One version.
To say that we are not happy with this situation is an understatement. We want to see our games on as many platforms as possible. We see that many of you are waiting for the Xbox One version. We are also disappointed because we have invested time and money in this version which is put on hold indefinitely. It’s also lost money on potential future revenue, which is important for an independent studio like ours.
The PS4 version is not affected by this decision and will see the light of day on April 28. If you pre-ordered the game on Xbox One, you can request a refund. Anyway, we wish good luck to the teams in this time that could not be more delicate.
