IT House May 22 news that products that support Bluetooth or Wi-Fi must be approved by regulatory agencies such as the FCC. New FCC documents this week show that Apple is creating a mysterious new “Network Adapter” (Network Adapter) ”, running the iOS system.

According to 9to5Mac, the product is code-named “A2657” and is simply described as a “Network Adapter.” According to documents shared by the FCC, Apple sent samples of the device to the agency on January 22, 2022. While there are no pictures of the adapter, details of its internal hardware are described in the document.

Apple’s Mystery Network Adapter has two Gigabit Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and an NFC antenna, plus a USB-C port. Interestingly, the FCC filing also shows,The accessory has 32GB of internal storage and 1.5GB of RAM. A second version of the same product featured a Lightning port instead of a USB-C port, and only had 1GB of RAM.

According to these documents, the adapter runs firmware “19F47”,This is an early build of iOS 15.5. It is speculated that the adapter is equipped with Apple’s self-developed Apple Silicon chip, similar to Apple’s Studio Display display.

Further details about the device are unclear, as Apple has asked for a non-disclosure agreement that runs until November 2022.

This doesn’t mean that Apple’s network adapter will be released to the general public, because many of the devices Apple registers with the FCC are for internal use, such as repairs by technicians. iPhone and tools for Mac. But if the adapter is indeed an unannounced new product from Apple, it could be a new version of Apple’s AirPort router.
