A few weeks ago, Apple announced the integration of Apple Business Essentials with Google Workspace. Now, the Cupertino-based company has provided new details on how the Google Workspace integration will work in Apple Business Manager.
Announced last November, Apple Business Essentials is a subscription service for small businesses in the United States. The service combines device management, Apple 24/7 support, iCloud storage, and even AppleCare+. Basically, it’s an easier way to streamline your business workflow across all Apple devices.
Employees simply sign in to their work account on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac using a managed Apple ID. Once they sign in, they’ll have access to everything they need to be productive, including the new Apple Business Essentials app, from where they can download work apps available to them.
Integration with Google Workspace will simplify cloud identity management for organizations that do not have a dedicated IT department. Previously, this process was tedious, but the integration is designed to simplify it.
Managed Apple IDs can be created by integrating with Microsoft Azure Active Directory and, later this spring, Google Workspace identity services, allowing employees to sign in to their devices with a single business username and password. Apple Business Essentials works with corporate and personal devices, and with the Apple User Enrollment feature, personal information of employees remains private and cryptographically separated from work data.
How to set up the authentication process
An administrator or HR manager must first sign in to Apple Business Manager. Click the account owner’s name, Settings, then Accounts. Next to Federation, click Edit, Google Workspace, then Connect. You then “Sign in with Google” by entering your Google Workspace administrator details. Click “Done” when you’re ready to set up.

How to enable federated authentication
You must enable federated authentication before syncing with Google Workspace. Log in as an administrator or HR manager and click on the account owner’s name. Click Settings, Accounts, then Edit (under Domains). Enable federated authentication for each domain successfully added to your organization’s Apple Business Manager.
It may take some time for each account to update, according to Apple. For more information about Google Workspace integration, visit the Apple Support site.
