Clemens Fritz has extended his contract as director of professional football and scouting at Werder Bremen after the club secured promotion back to the Bundesliga at the first attempt. Bremen said Saturday the “signature was purely a formality” in keeping the 41-year-old Fritz at the club he first joined as a player in 2006. He retired in 2017 and has off-field roles since.
