The well-known manufacturer of PC peripherals, Sharkoon, presents the SB2, an audio solution that can be easily retrofitted for sound improvement and more functionality.

As the successor to the previous SB1 model, Sharkoon’s SB2 is said to have been further improved, according to the announcement, whereby problem-free use on any PC with a free USB-A port should continue to be offered thanks to driverless installation. Windows, macOS and Linux are supported.

The external USB sound card itself takes any headset or headphone with a 3.5mm jack plug, for which Sharkoon’s SB2 has two 3.5mm jacks for microphone and headphones, the headphone jack of which is marked as TRRS for extensive compatibility connection acts. But even apart from the adapter properties, more functionality should be offered.

Control and sound customization

Large buttons should allow easy control of the volume as well as quick muting of the microphone and the sound, while the Windows software, which is available for download separately, should enable individual adjustment of the sound experience, for example using a 10-band equalizer and virtual 7.1 -Sound with three surround sound effects. There are also twelve preset equalizer modes on board, and you can also save your own adjustments.

A CM108B sound chip works inside the USB sound card, which according to the data sheet has dimensions of 60 x 25 x 11 millimeters and weighs 20 grams. An impedance of 16 to 80 ohms and a maximum sampling frequency of 16 bit / 48 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio of 93 dB should be offered. The cable length is 15 centimeters and the contacts of the connections are gold-plated.
