To encourage more people to develop.

This weekend we reported that Business Insider has been informed that Microsoft is developing a system to be able to include advertising in free to play games. Now Business Insider is back, and this time it is with information that arch-rival Sony is developing a similar solution.

I sin report (paywall) they write that they talked to three people involved who say that Sony is developing the advertising program to encourage developers to continue releasing free to play games.

The initiative is expected to be launched at the end of the year and will allow developers / publishers to include advertising in a way that makes it appear as part of the game, such as on advertising pillars and the like in the gaming world. However, they do not seem to be a completely passive phenomenon, as there is also talk of rewarding players who watch the commercial with things that shine.

According to the sources, Sony has not decided whether they will take part of the advertising revenue, and one of them should also have stated that Sony is considering selling data on consumer activity on the platform to developers and publishers. On the other hand, one of them also says that Sony is very strict with which advertising companies they collaborate with and that information such as e-mail and name may not be collected.

All this is of course unconfirmed information and must therefore be taken with a pinch of salt.
