No wonder: the so-called Cave of Knowledgein which you are let loose on individual opponents in a controlled manner and the controls of the game are explained, is missable.
After you die against the first boss and the cutscene with melina looked at, you wake up in a cave and after just a few steps you come across a hole. In front of it sits a ghost that tells you to jump down and a message from the game also tells you to do so. Of course, many players thought this was a trap.
New patch adds tutorial note to Elden Ring

Not the most elegant, but certainly the most efficient solution, so that at least nobody can complain anymore that the game didn’t at least point them to the existing tutorial. From Software seems to have come to the same conclusion that the previous implementation was not beginner-friendly enough despite the warning.
