Bad news for fans of Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o. The latter announced her departure from the project for Apple TV + called “Lady in the Lake”. The actress was supposed to play one of the key roles along with Nutley Portman, but the shift in the schedule due to the pandemic confused the cards.
The loss of Lupita Nyong’o will be a big blow to the show, which has recently acquired several stars in the form of Ilan Noel, Mikey Madison and Brett Gelman.
The Lady in the Lake is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Laura Lippman, set in 1960s Baltimore. A cold case involving the murder of a young girl prompts exemplary wife and mother Maddie Schwartz (Portman) to use her journalistic background to launch her own investigation. Fate soon brings Maddie up against Cleo Sherwood (Nyong’o), a hard-working woman active in the local black civil rights movement.
American writer Laura Lippman worked as a reporter for twenty years, including twelve at The Baltimore Sun. The director and co-writer is Alma Harel (“Dear Boy”). Producers include Jean-Marc Vallee (Big Little Lies). The number of episodes and the release date of the show have not yet been announced.
