65W Spigen GaN Charger Hands-On Review

Among all other accessory manufacturers, Spigen is one of the first brands to fully utilize the latest GaN III technology. Other brands have just begun to implement versions of the previous generation charging standard, and Spigen now has quite a few offerings that take advantage of the more efficient design.

The company recently introduced the new 65W Spigen ArcDock Charger, which features four ports in a portable form factor. With a maximum output of 65W, the recent debut can handle recharging all the hardware in your Apple kit. But is it versatile enough to use all four ports? Let’s take a look at the hands.

Here’s a closer look at the specification:

Spigen’s advanced 3D PCB technology reduces the size of the ArcDock by 19% compared to a conventional 65W charger. Small in size but delivers 65W of power, enough to charge a 13-inch MacBook Pro up to 50% in 43 minutes. Advanced technology, 3rd generation gallium nitride, enhances ArcDock performance. It minimizes pulsing noise while charging to protect you and your device from potential damage. Also, it dissipates less heat compared to other non-GaN chargers. Charge four devices at the same time. It only takes one outlet to charge four different devices at the same time. One USB-C port provides up to 65W output for laptops, and one USB-A port provides up to 18W fast charging for mobile phones. Just fill everything you have with one charger.

Taking 9to5Toys

We’ve been fans of Spigen accessories for a long time here at 9to5Toys. I won’t reveal too much, but the company’s latest release justifies high expectations. I’ve been using the new Spigen GaN ArcDock 65W charger for the past few weeks and have been pleasantly surprised by its performance.

Out of the box, there is nothing special about the device, other than the main charger and a separate power cord that plugs into the rear panel. There’s a fairly standard plastic case covering all of the GaN III charging technology that makes the ArcDock stand out, meaning it looks well built.

Incorporating all of the next generation technology, you will find four options for refueling gear. The stars of the show are the two USB-C ports, each of which can independently transfer up to 65W of power. That’s enough to comfortably use everything from iPhones to iPads, as well as 13-inch MacBooks. You can then also distribute that 65W of power across all four ports, allowing you to charge multiple devices at the same time. This will cut power output, of course, but even with 20W of juice coming out of each USB-C port, there’s still enough power to meet on-the-go charging needs.

Beyond simply making it easy to set up your desk or nightstand, the biggest use case for the Spigen 65W GaN charger is to be able to travel. Having four ports in such a small form factor is very convenient, and I have to say that the longer power cord on the back means you can position your equipment just about anywhere. So, even if hotels have wall sockets, which couldn’t be the worst place, there are enough to let you recharge comfortably in bed. Even with just 65W of power, it can handle filling up your MacBook at night or more occasional refills during the day.

However, the biggest selling point has to be the price tag. The current price of $60 is already enough to draw attention to itself, but the fact that you can often find it on sale – and at the same time with a significant 30% discount – makes it an even better deal. Of course, this won’t completely replace the dedicated 16-inch MacBook Pro charger, but it can handle everything else with ease thanks to a design that won’t take up too much space in your everyday carry. I definitely recommend getting it on sale, although you won’t be disappointed if you get it at retail.
