As expected, Blizzard has just confirmed that Wrath of the Lich King, World of Warcraft’s 3rd expansionwill land on classic servers in the current 2022.

A true pivot in the World of Warcraft saga, Wrath of the Lich King is perhaps the first expansion to think about player engagement through more direct storytellingvia the direct extension of a narrative arc left suspended since Warcraft III: Frozen Throne.

But maybe it’s this change of approach vis-à-vis the adventure that has also convinced other World of Warcraft players as the MMO had cross-dressed to appeal to as many people as possible, with an emphasis on solitary pleasure, over-facilitation of group play and the à la carte challenge.

However, WOTLK remains a major expansion that will have tagged a lot of WoW players.

As a reminder, Wrath of the Lich King sends Alliance and Horde players to explore Northrendterritory of the Lich King which is the result of the fusion of spirits by Arthas Menethil and Ner’zhul. There’s a lot going on in this expansion, but over the course of the updates, players have ended up taking over Icecrown Citadel and end the suffering of the young prince of Lordaeron.

The maximum level is increased at level 80 and Classic players will be able to take advantage of the new heroic class: the death knightwhich begins straight to level 55. Like the release of the extension in 2008it will be possible to create your death knight not much time before the release of the expansionalthough we have no dates outside of a vague “current 2022”. This time, there will be no prerequisites to create your Death Knight, although it will still be impossible to create more than one per server.

Blizzard has not yet specified whether it will be possible to stay on Burning Crusade servers when Wrath of the Lich King will be deployed, but access to the extension will always be freewhere alone a World of Warcraft subscription will be enough to enjoy it.
