Earlier this month, we were all surprised to learn that Embracer Group is getting Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal, along with many associated IPs. In its “target=”_blank”rel=”nofollow”>report on the past year, the giant gives some ideas of what it intends to do with its new acquisitions.

Embracer Group offers Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Tomb Raider for cheap!

Sequels, but also old!

With series like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief or Legacy of Kain, Embracer Group has a real armada of licenses that will attract the most nostalgic players for new adventures, but also old ones.

Indeed, in addition to mentioning its desire to produce sequels, the publisher does not exclude the possibility of producing remakes, remasters, spin-offs and transmedia projects. Suffice to say that with the liabilities of these licenses, there is plenty to do!

Post quarter end, we further strengthened our development capabilities and intellectual property portfolio by entering into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain and other IPs. The announcement received an enthusiastic and positive reception. We see great potential, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spinoffs as well as transmedia projects across the Group. We expect the transaction to close between July-September.

Let’s hope all the same that the group does not take advantage of the nostalgia of the players to make a profit, but rather that it offers ambitious productions worthy of prestigious licenses like Deus Ex and Tomb Raider.

Before seeing the fruits of this acquisition, we will surely have to wait many months or years, especially since Embracer Group expects the takeover to be finalized between July and September.
