Allegedly, Nvidia’s AD102 GPU, which is to be used on the new Geforce RTX 4090, is already in the test phase. This would be the first final, executable GPUs in circulation. The first benchmarks could therefore soon appear in the rumor mill.

So far this year’s hardware market has been rather tame, but the first big new products will soon be available. While Intel and AMD exchange blows with the new Ryzen 7000 and Core 13000 processors in the second half of the year, Intel’s entry into the desktop graphics market is expected as early as the middle of the year. In the months that follow, the new RX 7000 and RTX 4000 graphics cards will also appear, so there will be major changes in the graphics card market by the end of the year.

AD102 is tested by Nvidia

The duel between the top models from AMD and Nvidia should be particularly exciting for many gamers, even if not too much is known about the performance of the two products. At least with the RTX 4090, that could change soon, because apparently Nvidia now has a working copy.

Specifically, the leaker “Kopite7kimi” active on Twitter claims that the AD102 GPU used on the RTX 4090 is now in the test phase. This usually takes place after a chip has been taped out and is intended to verify that everything went smoothly during development and production. As long as no further problems arise, Nvidia should therefore soon try to maximize the clock speeds of the AD102 chip. At the latest when the corresponding samples arrive at the board partners, performance values for the new Nvidia flagship should increasingly appear on the net.

Equally exciting: Geforce RTX 4090: Power consumption estimates – GPU with twice the power consumption?

However, it is already clear that there will be a significant leap in performance with the new Geforce flagship. So far, the rumor mill has been talking about a much more modern production process and 18,432 instead of 10,752 shaders on the top model. In addition, faster memory should also be used.

While Nvidia has so far relied on memory with a maximum of 21 Gbit/s (RTX 3090 Ti), the RTX 4090 according to kopite7kimi 24 Gbps modules come into use. A larger cache should also ensure a further increase in bandwidth, as is currently the case with AMD’s RX-6000 graphics cards. A generally improved GPU architecture could also result in a further increase in performance, so that the RTX 4090 will end up being more than twice as fast as Nvidia’s current flagship.
