As the Embracer Group, the owner of Gearbox, announced in the current financial report, the Borderlands makers are currently developing nine AAA titles. That’s a lot more than Gearbox has announced so far. The company also reported very good quarterly results.
Obviously, big things are coming up for Gearbox fans: As the studio’s parent company, the Embracer Group, announced in the current quarterly report, there are currently nine AAA titles in the pipeline. Gearbox has only officially announced five titles at the moment, some of which may not even fall into the AAA category.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands sold better than expected
As Embracer states, “Gearbox enriches the [Embracer Group] continues to deliver for the ambitious growth plan, and there are currently nine AAA titles in development.” The company has not disclosed details on the development status of these titles, but it is conceivable that Gearbox will present new games at this year’s E3.
Currently we are aware of Homeworld 3, Hyper Light Breaker, Have a Nice Death, Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case, Tales From The Borderlands 2 and Relic Hunter Legends currently in development at Gearbox. However, not all of these games should really qualify as AAA titles, so the studio is apparently still working on a whole series of unannounced games.
The financial results in the current quarterly report also show that the Embracer Group’s trust in Gearbox is justified: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands sold better than expected and contributed to a 17 percent increase in sales for the Embracer Group. A significant part of this should not only be the popularity of the Borderlands franchise, but also the generally positive reception of the title by fans and critics alike. Anyway, we’re excited to see what Gearbox is planning for the future – maybe we can expect new offshoots from the Borderlands series soon?
