The Canadian government has banned the use of Huawei and ZTE equipment on their 5G networks due to national security concerns. The statement said companies could be forced to comply with “out-of-court directions from foreign governments” in ways that could “contravene Canadian law or prejudice Canadian interests.”
Telecommunications companies will be prohibited from purchasing new equipment for 4G and 5G networks in September this year. By mid-2024, they should replace all Huawei and ZTE 5G equipment that they have already installed.
