IT House May 20 news, according to Apple Insider reports,App Store users and subscribers to services like Apple Music in India must now use the country’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI)not a credit or debit card.

Changes to the law approved by the Reserve Bank of India in October 2021 will affect any recurring payments. Once enacted, the new legislation will require approval for all such transactions to be completed.

On May 5, it was discovered that Apple had cancelled credit card payments in India. The Apple support page only mentions that some deals may be rejected due to regulatory changes.

The support page has not been updated, but according to the Economic Times of India, Apple has confirmed that the change is permanent.

“In light of upcoming regulations from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), starting June 1,” Apple said, “credit and debit cards can no longer be used to make purchases or subscriptions on the App Store or other Apple services.”

Indian users must now use the UPI service to top up their Apple ID or Apple Wallet with enough funds to pay for a subscription or purchase.
