Yandex.Drive will be left without cars. Car sharing – everything?

Car sharing from Yandex may lose 35% of cars. Leasing contracts are expiring, their rates are rising, and there is nowhere to buy cars because of the shortage. All this puts the existence of carsharing into question.

According to the source, the sphere of carsharing represented by Yandex.Drive is experiencing difficulties in its further existence. The company’s leasing contracts are coming to an end, which means that most of the fleet will return to the owners. According to preliminary estimates, the service will deprive about 35% of the car. The refund is gradually being made from the beginning of January 2022.

Yandex.Drive does not hide problems with leasing companies. Major, the main partner of the service, refuses to resell cars, and new contract terms are not beneficial for Yandex. Lessor rates have risen from 8% to 20%, and in some cases higher.

Due to the crisis, finding new cars has become a difficult task. Cars that meet the criteria will be returned from St. Petersburg, Sochi and Kazan to Moscow. Domestic brands Lada turned out to be unsuitable for carsharing. Experts have proved that running from 100 to 120 thousand km per year will lead to the write-off of cars before the end of the leasing contract. Also, due to interruptions in logistics, there is a problem with the replacement of components.

All this leads to the fact that car rental will begin to rise, and the popularity of the service, at least, will decline.
