The first quarter of the year will not go down in the annals of the smartphone market. Not only is the period traditionally not conducive to large sales volumes, but the Omicron variant has come to stir up the souk. Result: deliveries fell by 11% compared to the first three months of 2021, according to Canalys.
Apple has lost its luster and its trophy in the firmament of market shares: in first position in the fourth quarter of 2021, the manufacturer gives way to Samsung in the first quarter of 2022. With 18% of the world market, the Apple loses 4 points of one quarter to another, when Samsung shows 24% (+2 points).
Apple has however shown good will, by launching the iPhone SE 3rd generation in March, but on the one hand it was too fair to really weigh in deliveries, and on the other hand Samsung went all out with the Galaxy S22 in February, and new Galaxy A, its family of mid-range smartphones with excellent value for money.
Canalys also thinks that the iPhone SE has a great career ahead of it, even if the beginnings seem quite difficult. But with its price close to the previous generation (it is a bit more expensive), its better battery and support for 5G, it will eventually find a buyer, assures the house. On April 28, Apple will present its first quarter results.
