Here is a piece of news that brightened our dear editor’s day: Thunderful (entity composed, as a reminder, of the former Swedish studios Image & Form and Zoink) announced that four games set in the licensed universe SteamWorld were in development, three of which would be released next year. One of them will be Headhunter, scheduled for 2023 and unveiled last November, while the others are content for the moment with code names. The first two, “Strawberry” and “Coffee“, will also be released next year and even before Headhunteraccording to schedule from the editorwhile a last one, codenamed “Caramel“, is scheduled for 2024.
“Sstrawberry“will be a puzzle game developed primarily for mobiles,”Coffee” a city-builder intended for PC and consoles, and “Caramel” (who must make bif, moula) will be a tactical and strategic turn-based shooter, planned for PC, consoles and mobiles. As a reminder, SteamWorld Headhunterof which you can find the teaser trailer below, will be a third-person action-adventure game. After successfully passing through the genres of tower defense, Metroidvania, tactical 2D and deck-builder, it is therefore not very surprising to see the license diversify even more while continuing, we hope, to maintain the same level of quality.
Now it remains to be seen which of these games SteamWorld will come out on Switch : given that it is intended for all existing supports, few doubts about “Caramel“. “Strawberry” should remain on mobiles. Only the two unknowns remain, namely Headhunter and “Coffee”: we will see what happens, but the games of the license have historically always been released on as many media as possible, so we remain quite optimistic that at least one of the two will be released on the console of nintendo.
