Germany is to transfer 15 Leopard 2 tanks to the Czech army to compensate Prague for weapons supplies to Ukraine, German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht says. Czech Defence Minister Jana Cernochova says Germany is sending older Leopard 2 A4 models, along with spare parts and ammunition. The aim is to ensure that there are no gaps in the Czech Republic’s defensive capabilities. Germany’s Bundeswehr is due to train Czech soldiers to operate the tanks. Berlin and Prague also started negotiating the purchase of up to 50 new Leopard 2 A7+ tanks by the Czech Republic.
