The plans for the film adaptation of Minecraft continue to pick up speed. According to a new report from the renowned The Hollywood Reporter, the project has now attracted a real Hollywood star: Jason Momoa is set to take on the lead role in the Warner Bros. flick.
Jason Momoa has made a name for himself for his roles in “Aquaman” and most recently “Dune” and is set to enrich the world of blocks on the big screen in the future. According to the report, Jared Hess (“Napoleon Dynamite”) was hired as the new director to stage him.
The Minecraft film has been in the works since 2014; once there were even plans for a theatrical release in 2022. However, the project was changed and realigned several times. Hess is already the fourth committed director for the strip. Before him, Peter Sollett (“The Path”), Rob McElhenney (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Shawn Levy (“Free Guy”) were to fill the role. Mary Parent (“Dune”) and Roy Lee (“Death Note”) will act as producers.
In 2019, Minecraft developer Mojang stated that the film would be about a teenager and her unusual group of adventurers. They must protect their block-sized Overworld from the Ender Dragon, who is on a path of destruction.
