Over the years, we have tested a bunch of speakers from Audio Pro. It has undeniably been unusual for us to have anything significant to whine or complain about. It is simply a reliable manufacturer that almost always delivers.

Rating 3 out of 5

Opinion

Audio Pro P5 gives and takes. An attractive price tag for a portable travel speaker from such a well-known person is of course always of interest. The flexible format, as well as the detailed and engaging midrange, is the speaker’s strongest argument for buying. The lack of certain function buttons, the ability to adjust the sound image as well as an uncertain battery indicator are some reasons to give up instead.

Positively

  • Format and design
  • The middle register
  • Possibility to connect two speakers
  • Priced

Negative

  • IPX4-rated only (spray-proof)
  • The sound at higher volume
  • The base reproduction
  • Narrow sweet spot for optimal sound experience

That they also took the step into the segment with really portable models thus feels completely natural, even though the Audio Pro P5 is not a completely new speaker, but was launched just in time for last summer, we have not had the opportunity to test it. Until now.

Flexible to the format

We are dealing with a rather small speaker that measures 22 centimeters in width and 10 centimeters in height and 5.3 centimeters in depth. With others, there is no problem at all with getting it in your handbag, backpack or small suitcase. It is also delivered with a carrying strap that is attached to one side of the speaker.

The format thus leaves nothing to be desired, as does the installation. As soon as you switch it on for the first time, the bluetooth function is activated so that you can connect the speaker with your playback device. Along with the volume and volume buttons on the top of the device, there is also a dedicated bluetooth button, if you need to repeat the procedure or want to pair it with another smartphone.

With that also everything we are offered, some controls for changing the song in either direction are missing as well as a sensible battery indicator. There is certainly a small LED next to the function buttons that indicates, by glowing red instead of blue, when the battery power starts to run low, but exactly how little power is left, you simply have to guess. No associated and up-to-date app for obtaining this or other information about the speaker’s well-being is offered and consequently the possibility of adjusting the sound is also lacking.

Two speakers can be connected

Something the speaker, on the other hand, has the option of being connected to another P5, for true stereo sound. Unfortunately, we have not been able to test this function, nor assess it, as we only received one unit for testing.

Well, despite a limited range of features – the most important are there and the format is, as we mentioned earlier, really flexible. If the speaker can only perform acoustically, these weaknesses are easier to forgive, right?

Audio Pro P5

P5 is a 2-way speaker with a 1-inch and a ditto 3.2 mid-woofer, which operates within the frequency range 57 – 20,000 Hz. Given the compact size of the speaker, it does it really well. It is mainly the airy and detailed middle register that convinces and that makes us pull on the smiley face. The treble is pleasant and moderately sharp, while the bass reproduction, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired and the reproduction lacks that real depth. Keep in mind that the speaker’s sound is distinctly forward-facing and the slightest deviation in your location, seen from the unit’s sweet spot, immediately adversely affects the sound experience.
