Locked up in a train rushing towards Istanbul, Murder on the Orient Express succeeds in an ambitious mix of genres

A camera in the most famous train in the world, do you like it? This week, our team was invited to test The crime of the Orient Express. An escape game for the less original, since the immersive experience imagined by The One Escape has the particularity of mixing investigation and murder party.

Who killed Samuel Lioretti?

Winter 1934, a passenger of the Orient Express is found murdered in his cabin. You have to find the culprit, and it is clear that he or she is among you. In an oppressive camera until six participants, you will have to meticulously inspect each of the parts of the train at your disposal. You will have to cooperate to find the killer, but also stay on your guard: not everyone wanted the victim only good.

The originality of Murder on the Orient Express is its mix of escape game and role-playing game. In addition to conducting the investigation, you will also have to embody one of the passengers – and suspect – of the train, while keeping an eye on your teammates. If the murder party dimension tends to slightly alter our thinking skills, it is also one of the particularities that we appreciated the most during the experience.

To elucidate this mystery worthy of Agatha Christie’s best novel, you will have to search everywhere, find clues, but also achieve your personal goals in the face of other players. The evidence is piling up, but some will also disappear as soon as your back is turned, so it will be a question of staying on the lookout. Flanked by a hat as an accessory, you will have the choice to embody an unbearable diva, a mysterious art salesman or even a grieving widow. The only common point between all the protagonists: everyone is a potential culprit.

An immersive experience

Our trip aboard the Orient Express lasted 60 minutes, and it’s clear that we weren’t bored for a single second. The sets are particularly immersive, thanks in particular to the snowy landscapes that pass in front of our windows. If the escape game part is not easy for our brains, the murder party dimension is a real success. We get caught up in the game, and the final outcome lives up to our expectations.

Special mention to the talent of the mistress of the game, who accompanies us until the final whistle to play the cabin manager and guide us on the path to take. For all writing, it’s a big crush. If you are in Paris, we can only advise you to try the experience. On our side, we can’t wait to test the other creations of The One Escape, which has definitely established itself as a safe bet in this area.

Murder on the Orient Express in a nutshell:

  • From 4 to 6 players
  • Intermediate difficulty
  • Between €25 and €28 per player
