Improbable has sold Midwinter Entertainment to Behavior Interactive. Scavengers was discontinued for Xbox and PlayStation this turn.

The development studio Midwinter Entertainment, made up of industry veterans and former developers of Halo, Call of Duty and more, has been sold by parent company Improbable to Dead by Daylight developer and publisher Behavior Interactive.

The PC version of Scavengers, which has been in Early Access since May 2021, is currently being maintained by a small team. However, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, which have been in closed alpha for a few months, will be discontinued.

According to a report by Eurogamer Midwinter Entertainment is working on a new project led by Behavior Interactive. The future of the PC version of Scavengers is unclear at this point.

Studio head Mary Olsen said of the acquisition, “When we first spoke to Behavior a few months ago, the consensus between the teams was striking and, in my experience, rare.
As we probed further, it became clear that the similarities go beyond similar values and development philosophies. We are very excited to be working with and learning from a team that has a proven track record of succeeding across a wide range of intellectual property, while also leveraging the strong foundation, culture and team we have built at Midwinter, to expand Behaviour’s portfolio. Additionally, Midwinter will be able to leverage 30 years of experience and partner with one of the fastest growing game studios in North America.”

Rémi Racine, Head of Behavior Interactive, said: “Behaviour wasn’t looking for just any studio, it was looking for the right studio. The chemistry was key, as well as our similar values, culture, and commitment to making games that push boundaries and challenge expectations make Midwinter a perfect match.
This is an important step in a milestone year for Behaviour, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in September, and further testament to the impressive growth that has seen our sales more than double since 2019 and our team approaching 1000 Full-time employees count”

The parent company Improbable wants to focus more on the Metaverse in the future, as boss and co-founder Herman Narula mentions in his statement:

“As part of our announced focus on the Metaverse, Improbable announced earlier this year that it would be separating from its non-Metaverse focused content teams. We are very pleased to have found partners who can provide a fantastic home for the Midwinter team. We’re very pleased that Midwinter has chosen Behaviour, both because of the common goals they share and the cultural fit we’ve seen during our conversations.
The work the Midwinter team has done over the past three years has been phenomenal and we wish the team well and look forward to seeing the upcoming projects come to life.”
