One of the features introduced in Apple Maps with iOS 14 is Bike Directions, which helps cyclists find the best routes with bike lanes. Now the company has expanded bike routes in its Maps app for users in Chicago, Detroit, and other cities in the US Midwest.
As noted by Justin O’Bairn, the update began to be automatically distributed to users on April 15th. Apple Maps now shows bike routes in Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Charleston.
As described by Apple, this feature not only provides the best cycling routes, but also shows details such as altitude and traffic, as well as options for avoiding hilly routes. Bike routes on Apple Maps were already available for regions such as California, New York, Toronto, Vancouver, London, and mainland China.
In the Maps app, you can get detailed cycling routes. The maps offer directions for bike lanes, bike lanes, and bike paths (if available). You can view the elevation for your trip, check how busy the road is, and choose the route that best avoids hills. As you ride your route, Maps announces specific cycling directions for turns and maneuvers.
According to O’Beirne’s website, the feature was already rolled out to parts of the northeast US earlier this month. O’Bairn also believes that Texas and the Gulf Coast will be the next areas to feature bike trails on Apple Maps.
