News is circulating in the media that a Texas couple is suing Apple for damaging their 12-year-old son’s hearing with AirPods Pro. They caused irreparable harm to his health, he is doomed to use a hearing aid for the rest of his life.

The boy was reportedly watching Netflix content on his iPhone while using AirPods Pro headphones. Suddenly, an Amber Alert (emergency warning) sounded, the shrill sound of which eventually damaged the boy’s eardrums. After the incident, he has experienced dizziness, tinnitus and nausea on an ongoing basis.

The incident itself occurred in 2020, but only now the boy’s parents decided to go to court. They state that AirPods Pro “do not automatically reduce, control, limit, or increase the volume of notifications or alerts to a safe level that causes them to emit.” At the same time, Apple does not provide any guidance on limiting the volume of warnings to avoid hearing damage.

In the lawsuit, the child’s parents seek damages “in an amount that will punish the defendant for his behavior and cause other technology companies to refrain from committing such misconduct in the future.” They are sure that Apple is aware of the problem, but did nothing to solve it.
