Amazon isn’t the most talkative about its plans around all forms of virtual, augmented, mixed reality… (or XR to sum it up) but there is activity behind the scenes, observed Protocol.

The site has listed multiple job postings that, to varying degrees, cite XR and Augmented Reality as fields of application for future featured devices. as unreleased at Amazon. Some of these mentions seem to have been removed from descriptions but they may remain in page URLs.

These are offers for profiles of engineers, interface designers, specialists in image analysis, or who have experience in the launch of consumer products.

It should come as no surprise that Amazon is taking an interest in this area, let alone consumer electronics, the giant can develop its own solutions for its vast in-house needs.

However, we may have forgotten that Amazon has already launched a product located very on the margin of what could be described as augmented reality glasses.

With its Echo Frames marketed in the United States since the end of 2020, Amazon started by playing with audio by integrating Alexa into a frame of glasses (they can be fitted with corrective lenses). They are in their second generation and are sold for $155 ($250 at launch).

It’s a much simpler approach since it completely ignores the visual part, there is not even a camera. We are very far from what Snap, Meta, Sony, Microsoft and, tomorrow, probably Apple are doing.
