Apple is being sued again. This time because of AirPods that ruptured the eardrums of a 12-year-old child.
He watched a movie on Netflix on his iPhone in 2020 using AirPods Pro. The headphones themselves were set to low volume, but there was a loud alert from Amber Alert (approx. child abduction alert system).
As a result, the child (listed in the claim as BG) began to hear worse, there was constant dizziness, tinnitus and nausea. Now he is forced to walk with a hearing aid.
Apple has been accused of producing “defective” AirPods that don’t automatically turn down the alert volume. The lawsuit also states that the company had prior knowledge of the “defect”.
The plaintiffs demand compensation from the Cupertinos, which “would make any technology company think about correcting such a mistake.” [MacRumors]
