The head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, said at the New Horizons forum that the authorities do not plan to close the YouTube video platform. At least until a competitive alternative appears or hosting goes beyond imposing a hostile information agenda.

“We are not planning to shut down YouTube. First of all, when we restrict something, we must clearly understand that our users do not suffer. Our task is to have our own competitive analogue, which will appear not because we closed YouTube, but so that it develops in competition,” the minister said.

The head of the Ministry of Digital Development noted that closing is an extreme measure that can only be applied at the time of the creation of an alternative.

“Unless it crosses a certain line, when the opportunities to access this audience are used to impose an information agenda that is hostile to our country,” he said.

The department is closely monitoring the situation and is trying to prevent it from moving into a “difficult plane,” the minister stressed.
