Tesla must organize the recall of a certain number of Model S and Model 3 in France and in Europe. In question: a risk of accident at high speed, the hood can indeed open without warning.
Tesla is once again required to recall several vehicles across the European Union, for Model S and Model 3. The European Commission has indeed determined that certain vehicles produced between 2014 and 2021 exhibited a serious danger to drivers and their passengers.
Watch out for the hood!
The website Drink reminder of the French government details the problem in these terms: At high speeds, the air intake between the bonnet and the radiator grille causes vibrations in the bonnet. This can lead to stress fractures along the hood latch striker and its separation from the hood, causing the hood to pop open. This obstructs drivers’ vision, increasing the risk of an accident “.
To put it more simply, the hood of the incriminated Model S or Model 3 is likely to open on its own when the vehicle is engaged at high speed. The air that infiltrates under the hood causes excessive vibrations. And once the hood is open on the road, the driver’s view is necessarily obstructed…
The authorities do not specify the number of vehicles affected by this problem. The Tesla owner must go to the dealership for repair. For a car manufacturer, it is not uncommon to have to organize this kind of recall, and of course Tesla is not immune.
Elon Musk’s company regularly deals with these recalls, so at the beginning of the year Tesla had to recall half a million of its cars in the United States, there also for rear trunk problems (for the Model 3) and front trunk (for Model S). A concern that is very similar to that identified by the European Commission.
