A new wave of coronavirus infection has emerged in China, and this has forced the Chinese authorities to introduce strict quarantine in places where the disease is rapidly spreading. We have previously written that China is suspending the production of iPhones, iPads and Macbooks due to covid, but the situation is getting worse.
The main manufacturer of iPhones for Apple is the largest Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn, whose factories are located on the island of Taiwan and on the territory of mainland China. One of Foxconn’s huge iPhone factories is located in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou. In the Zhengzhou region, Chinese authorities are introducing strict quarantine to prevent the spread of a new wave of covid, and this may affect the operation of the Foxconn Technology Group plant.
All surrounding areas to the special economic zone near Zhengzhou airport came under quarantine, announced on the recent Friday, April 15, 2022. The main iPhone manufacturer is also located in this economic zone. In this regard, without exception, all employees of the Foxconn plant in Zhengzhou were ordered to undergo mandatory testing for covid. According to rumors, the plant still continues to operate in the same mode, but there is a risk of production interruption.
This will lead to a shortage of iPhone in the world markets. However, there is no need to talk about Russia, as Apple stopped the supply of its devices to the Russian Federation at the beginning of March 2022 and now the stores are selling off their warehouse balances. Meanwhile, the government of the Russian Federation is discussing the possibility of “parallel imports”, that is, gray schemes for the purchase and delivery to Russia of goods in demand among Russians. iPhones, along with the rest of Apple equipment, may also be included in the list of these goods allowed for gray import.
