Following the release of iOS 15.5 and macOS Monterey 12.4, Apple today released Swift Playgrounds 4.1, the latest version of the app for iPad and Mac designed to teach users how to code and build apps.
On Mac, Swift Playgrounds 4.1 adds many new features, including support for building Mac apps with SwiftUI with macOS 12.4 or later, a guide to building apps, live updates to App Preview as changes are made, and integration with App Store Connect for download ready-made applications in the App Store.
Swift Playgrounds 4.1 brings new features, new content, and bug fixes. New features include:
- Build Mac apps with SwiftUI (requires macOS 12.4 or later).
- A guide to building apps with SwiftUI.
- App Preview lets you see real-time updates as you make changes to your app.
- Applications created with Swift Playgrounds are launched and installed in the Applications folder
- App Store Connect integration lets you upload ready-made apps to the App Store (requires an Apple Developer Program account).
- Intelligent built-in job suggestions help you write code quickly and accurately.
- Whole project search finds results in multiple files
- The snippet library provides hundreds of SwiftUI controls, symbols, and colors.
- Swift Package support allows you to include publicly available code to improve your applications.
- App projects make it easy to move projects to and from Xcode
Swift Playgrounds 4.1 for iOS doesn’t add many new features, but it does include a new one: Keep Going with Apps, which will help users better understand how data moves in SwiftUI apps.
