In its latest beta version for iOS and Android, Whatsapp will be testing a new feature that makes it possible to hide your “Read latest” status for certain contacts, reports Wabetainfo.
The last read status shows when a user last checked the app. Something that can be used by other users to figure out if someone has probably seen their messages, even if the read receipt feature is turned off.
Previously, the status was only possible to turn off for messages sent to someone who is not among your contacts.
If you choose to hide your status, you can also not see the status of the other user.
When the function may appear in the standard version of Whatsapp is currently unclear.
