Meta has once again confirmed that they are working on removing the requirement for Facebook login on the VR headset Quest 2. Exactly when it will become a reality, however, remains to be seen.
The VR headset Oculus / Meta Quest 2 was launched about two years ago. At launch, it was confirmed that users would need to log in to Facebook to use the device. Exactly why has never really been explained. However, a complete reversal was made a year later and it was confirmed that this requirement would be removed.
Another year has now passed and this update has still not been launched. However, it should still be on its way according to Metas CTO Andrew Bosworth as via Instagram conducted an AMA session.
Bosworth, however, did not explain why the update takes so long to complete. It can be that many security issues arise when trying to disconnect the platforms. All that is clear right now, however, is that it is obviously such a complicated task that it has soon taken a year to complete.
Meta has also confirmed that they are currently working on the development of several new VR headsets, one of which is expected to be launched this year. As this update to Quest 2 is still to come, we can expect the company not to implement a similar login requirement on its upcoming devices.
