Samsung has been designing its own systems on chip (SOC) for mobiles for several years with the Exynos range, but the Korean giant would like to go a step further. A new rumor suggests that Samsung could design chips reserved exclusively for its products, following a strategy inspired by Apple if this information is to be believed. What has not always been the case so far, other manufacturers have been able to buy Exynos chips, including even recently Google for his future watch.

In addition to exclusivity, these new chips should compete more directly with Qualcomm and especially Apple in terms of power and energy consumption. The Exynos chips produced in recent years are correct, but lagging behind its two competitors and this is still the case with the very recent Exynos 2200 which equips the Galaxy S22 and which is not up to par.

It is also for this reason that the rumor does not provide for a new exclusive Samsung chip before 2025, the time probably to improve the design of the SOCs to better face the competition. Galaxy smartphones from 2025 and later are expected to leverage these chips and possibly other Samsung products in the future, but they are no longer expected to be sold to third parties. It remains to be seen whether the Korean company will be able to do at least as well as Qualcomm, overtaking Apple seeming even more complicated, at least initially.
