In February, dissatisfaction among some Apple Store employees in the United States over stagnant wages surfaced, and many Apple Stores were preparing to submit documents to create a union. As far as one New York City branch is concerned, the campaign appears to be making strides.

According to The Washington Post, organizers of “Fruit Stand Workers United” have begun Grand Central Apple Store flagship storeCollect signatures. Organisers are now handing out signature cards to potential union members following a February 21 vote to join the union.

IT House understands that Workers United previously assisted in another major union effort involving a multinational company to support Starbucks employees across the United States.

If enough votes are collected to create a union,This store will likely be the first Apple Store to unionize. According to anonymous employee reports,at least three other The Apple Store is trying to form its own union.

A website run by the organisers states: “Grand Central is an extraordinary store with unique working conditions, making it necessary to unionise to ensure our teams can cope with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and consumer price inflation.”

Apple declined to comment on whether to support or fight unions, but said in a statement, “We are fortunate to have incredible members of our retail team and we take what they bring to Apple very seriously. We are pleased to provide a very strong Compensation and benefits for full-time and part-time employees, including health care, tuition reimbursement, new parental leave, paid family leave, annual stock grants and many other benefits.”
