A recent statement by Guerrillas Mathijs de Jonge indirectly confirms that the “Horizon” franchise will be continued again. WARNING: This article contains a spoiler for Horizon Forbidden West.

in one Interview with VG247 said Mathijs de Jonge about the end of “Horizon Forbidden West”. The game director of the end-time adventure explained the importance of secrets that the player must uncover.

“Horizon is really about mystery; each of our stories has been about uncovering mysteries, both in the ancient world and in the present day where the game is set.”

This is one of the reasons why there is a detailed background story that can be built on in the future. From this, the development team can develop new storylines – and create more secrets.

The next statement is particularly exciting: “And indeed this game ends with another big cliffhanger, where we again prepare some things for the next game.”

A clear indication of a third “Horizon” offshoot. Of course, this isn’t a surprise because of the aforementioned cliffhanger at the end. And an insider recently claimed that Aloy’s adventures should become a trilogy. However, this is the first official statement regarding a successor.

California as the location was clear early on

Guerrilla Games already hinted at a sequel in part one. Although the story itself was complete, the broken terraform system offered enough scope for “Horizon Forbidden West”. In fact, early on the developers had post-apocalyptic California in mind as the setting.

De Jonge explains the choice of setting: “We thought it was a very interesting, mysterious and dangerous-sounding place. So that was the real reason we wanted to go there – and knowing that the terraform system still needed fixing, that was a starting point for developing the story.”
