After a nearly four-year hiatus, the Predator franchise is making a comeback on Disney+. In “Prey,” the legendary alien has set his sights on Native Americans.

After “Predator Upgrade” in 2018 failed to convince either critics or cinema audiences, the iconic alien hunter disappeared from the scene. With “Prey”, the “Predator” franchise is finally celebrating its comeback this year and exclusively on Disney+. For the latest offshoot of the cult film series, those responsible released a first teaser trailer today, which provides an insight into the new setting.

Prey takes place before the previous films

The story of “Prey” is set 300 years in the past and thus plays well before the previous four “Predator” films. Accordingly, there will be no connections to the last part of the series. The story centers on Naru, a seasoned Comanche warrior in the Wild West era, who clashes with the alien monster. She desperately tries to protect her tribe from the technologically superior hunter.

It was important to those responsible to present the Comanche tribe as authentically as possible. Especially Jhane Myers, who is involved as a producer on the science fiction action film, is known for taking great care in this regard. In order to achieve this goal, the cast of the work consists almost exclusively of people who themselves have indigenous roots and belong to the indigenous people or First Nations.

“Prey” is directed by director Dan Trachtenberg (“10 Cloverfield Lane”), while Patrick Aison (“Jack Ryan”) wrote the screenplay. In addition to Myers, John Davis (“Jungle Cruise”) and Lawrence Gordon (“Watchmen”) are also involved as producers on the project. Also involved as executive producers are Marty Ewing (“It: Chapter Two”), James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas and Marc Toberoff (“Fantasy Island”). Meanwhile, Amber Midthunder (“Legion”) and Stefany Mathias (“The Devil You Know”) star.

More on Predators:

If you want to bridge the waiting time until the release of the new “Predator” movie, you can play in the asynchronous multiplayer game “Predator: Hunting Grounds” optionally slip into the role of the dreaded alien hunter to dismantle a squad of marines. Alternatively, you can try, together with other human players, to survive the attack of the alien fighting machine intact.

Prey will be available exclusively on Disney+ on August 5, 2022.
