A dozen in chorus

We have probably never had such an illustrious selection in any headset test. 12 devices compete against each other, including some relatively young companies, but also a number of established names from both the audio and gaming industries. The price range is also wider than ever before. Starting with the cheapest model, the GH200 from the Taiwanese monitor manufacturer AOC and priced at just 20 euros, the range extends to a large selection of attractively priced mid-range models and interesting upper-class headsets with technical finesse to the noble headset MG20 from the hip life Style New Yorkers from the young audio company Master & Dynamic. The latter is the manufacturer’s first gaming headset and, for a hefty price of 450 euros, offers noble manufacture and the finest materials, including Alcantara and lambskin for the upholstery, headphones made of magnesium and, on top of that, a current craze from the audio world: very fine beryllium -Driver. With Ultrasone, another manufacturer is entering the market area, and on top of that we have contributions from well-known ones. So this time our selection is particularly diverse and should offer something interesting for every budget and requirement.

How much does good sound cost?

The already very large, even growing selection of headsets and the obviously constantly increasing price range can of course also cause uncertainty: How much should you spend on a headset and is it really worth investing several hundred euros primarily for gaming audio – how much is luxury with the high-price devices? Of course, we cannot answer these questions individually for each reader and of course we do not want to tell you what you should consider important or unimportant. In addition to our test, we can make a few general observations that may make your decision to buy a headset a little easier. For example, we can tell you that the high-priced headsets in the test, such as the Master & Dynamic MG20 or the Audeze Penrose, sound very good and also offer a great, differentiated and full-bodied sound when playing – the full potential of the high-end headsets but is often only really played out when listening to demanding and fine-resolution pieces of music.
