Any connected watch is able to measure a distance traveled. But athletes need a little more than that to optimize their training and break records. Polar has just announced two new features for runners.
If manufacturers like Apple or Samsung seek to satisfy all users with their connected watches, from the most sedentary to the most sporty, others on the contrary prefer to specialize in certain types of users. With the Pacer and Pacer Pro, Polar is specifically targeting runners.
Everything for running
A particularly attractive clientele: the manufacturer has in fact calculated that a quarter of the workouts recorded by its users come from runners. You might as well offer them a suitable product! In this case, there are two, starting with the Pacer for those who want to get into running. It incorporates a GPS and can measure the maximum oxygen consumption (VO2 max), an essential indicator to illustrate the amount of oxygen that the body can absorb.
The Pacer Pro also has a barometer measuring the power values in watts of the race on the wrist. The runner can thus instantly follow the effort required for each segment of the race: he will know immediately if he is running at the right intensity. The 20mm strap of the case is interchangeable with a quick-release spring bar system.
Both models include non-slip buttons around their casing, a bright, reflective and energy-efficient MIP display that is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.0 coating. Polar has developed its own hardware platform. But it is above all the software that has been the subject of a lot of work to measure the pace, times, distances, to plan training sessions, to create race profiles according to the terrain.
In addition, Pacer watches can track sleep and offer a player to control music from the smartphone. They also display notifications. The autonomy is 35 hours in training with GPS and heart rate monitoring activated. Up to 100 hours in power saving mode. Prices are €199.90 for the Pacer, €299.90 for the Pacer Pro.
